Changes in NEBOSH Certificate Verification Process

To enhance the security of its certification process and combat fraudulent activities, NEBOSH has implemented a verification system that involves direct communication with the original certificate holder. When an individual attempts to verify a certificate online by entering the certificate holder's name and certificate number, NEBOSH sends an email to the registered email address of the original certificate holder. The verification process is completed only after receiving confirmation from the certificate holder. This measure ensures that only authorized individuals can verify the authenticity of a NEBOSH certificate, thereby preventing the misuse of identical names and certificate numbers by unauthorized parties.

This step will be helpful to  prevent fraudulent verification of same name certificate.

Why Verify a NEBOSH Certificate?

In today's competitive job market, possessing a NEBOSH certificate can significantly enhance career prospects in health, safety, and environmental management. However, the rise of fraudulent certificates poses a threat to the credibility of genuine qualifications. Verifying a NEBOSH certificate ensures that:

  • Employers hire candidates with legitimate credentials.
  • Educational Institutions admit students with authentic qualifications.
  • Certificate Holders can confirm the validity of their achievements.

Methods to Verify a NEBOSH Certificate

NEBOSH mainly provides three methods to verify the authenticity of their certificates:

  1. Online Verification Tool

NEBOSH offers a free online verification platform that allows users to confirm the authenticity of certificates issued after December 31, 1990.To use this tool use the following link:

Access the Verification Page: Navigate to the NEBOSH Verifications page at NEBOSH website.

2.    Enter Certificate Details:

Learner’s Name: Input the name exactly as it appears on the certificate.

Date of Achievement: Enter the date in DD-MM-YYYY format.

Master Log Certificate Number: This number is located on the bottom left or back of the certificate and should be entered including the forward slash ("/").

3. Complete the CAPTCHA: Confirm you're not an automated system by completing the CAPTCHA.

4.    Submit the Information: Click "Submit" to verify the certificate.

If the certificate was issued before January 1, 1991, you'll need to submit a verification request directly to NEBOSH using their Verification Policy and Form.

  1. QR Code Verification

Certificates issued after October 1, 2019, feature a QR code in the bottom right-hand corner. To verify using the QR code:

Scan the QR Code: Use a smartphone or QR code scanner to scan the code.

Provide Your Details: You'll be prompted to enter your information.

Await Authorization: A verification authorization request will be sent to the certificate holder for approval. The verification process cannot be completed without the learner's approval.

  1. Direct Verification Requests

If you cannot verify a certificate using the online tool or QR code, or if you require verification of a Unit Results Notification (URN), you can submit a request directly to NEBOSH:

Complete the Verification Request Form: Download and fill out the form available on the NEBOSH website.

Submit the Form: Email the completed form to [email protected].

NEBOSH aims to process these requests within five working days. Note that for requests involving external educational institutions or for emigration/visa purposes, where completion of external paperwork is required, a fee may be applicable

Common Challenges in Verifying NEBOSH Certificates

While the verification process is generally straightforward, you may encounter certain challenges:

  • Incorrect Information: Entering details that do not exactly match the certificate can lead to verification failure. Ensure all information is accurate and case-sensitive.
  • Certificates Issued Before 1991: The online tool does not support certificates issued before January 1, 1991. For these cases, direct verification requests are necessary.
  • Unresponsive Certificate Holders: For QR code verifications, the process cannot proceed without the certificate holder's approval. Delays may occur if the holder does not respond promptly.

Additional Resources for NEBOSH Certificate Verification

NEBOSH provides several resources to assist with the verification process:

  • Verifications Guidance: Detailed instructions and FAQs are available on the NEBOSH website to help you navigate the verification process.
  • Customer Support: For further assistance, you can contact NEBOSH directly through their official contact channels.
